Det här är en stilla reflektion över min barndoms stigar. Jag tänker på människorna som jag mötte dagligen ute i markerna, och på deras slitsamma arbete i samklang med naturen. Några av de som var vuxna när jag var liten, är döda idag. Det har flyttat in nya männisskor i deras hus. Jag tänker på växterna och djuren som var en så självklar del av det vardagliga livet. Blåsipporna kommer tillbaka varje år på samma ställe. Men rävlyan är sönderkörd av maskiner.

This is a quiet reflection on the paths of my childhood. I think of the people I met in the fields daily, and of their hard work in harmony with nature. Some of those who were adults when I was a child are dead today. New people have moved into their houses. I think of the plants and animals that were such a natural part of everyday life. Year after year, the hepaticas come back in the same spot. But the fox den has been destroyed by machines.

I never jumped on the train in 2020, even though I should have based on what Afsky brings to the table (that characteristic Danish BM combination of melancholy and triumph), but I came across it again now and have seen the light. This is a lot less epic and urgent-sounding than most comparable Scandinavian works if you take it song by song, but that is the point: this is a mesmerising experience as an album, each minute building upon the previous, leading to a devastating overall impact. Another one of those bands whose music is impossible to fit under a simple label or tag, as it's a masterful blend of so many styles with lots of emotions. A bit like "An Abstract Illusion", one of those unique blends, folk, depressive, second wave, and atmospheric black metal styles into an exploratory whole, "the sum greater than its elements combined" kind of art... but it's the end result that counts, and I really liked it. Took a few listens and open-mindedness though. sachavonkarl74
